In February, Joe Gibbs Racing’s (JGR) Denny Hamlin became the first Toyota Camry driver to win a NASCAR Sprint Cup race with his victory in the Gatorade Duel qualifier at Daytona. Just three weeks later at Atlanta, his JGR teammate Kyle Busch won Toyota’s first points paying Sprint Cup Series race.
Busch taking a Toyota to victory lane was a scene that would be replayed numerous times throughout the season. He went on to register a NASCAR record 21 victories in the sanctioning body’s three national series during the 2008 campaign. Overall, Busch earned eight Sprint Cup wins, 10 in the Nationwide Series and three in the Camping World Truck Series for his single season total.
